The COVID-19 numbers for Thursday, August 20 saw another 749 new cases reported in a 24-hour period.

Hospitalizations are also climbing up by 23 more cases for a total of 221.

ICU admissions rose by five for a total of 48.

Of those currently in hospital, 179 people or 81.0 percent haven't been vaccinated at all, 11 or 4.98 percent are partially vaccinated and 31 people or 14.03 percent are fully immunized.

One additional death has been reported for a total of 2,343.

Alberta now has 6,709 active cases with a positivity rate of 8.3 per cent.  Those who are unvaccinated account for 4,915 or 73.26 per cent of the active cases. Seven hundred and seventy-five cases are in partially vaccinated people and 1,019 cases are infecting fully vaccinated people.

Vaccination rates continue to stagnate as cases rise with 77.2 per cent of people being partially vaccinated and 68.5 per cent of Albertans are fully immunized.

This week it was noted that Premier Kenney is away on vacation as cases spike. Alberta’s official opposition is demanding the government step up vaccination efforts amid the rising cases.

Cochrane added another three COVID-19 cases for a total of 45 and Rocky View County decreased by two for a total of 46.
