Jr. Ladies Silvertips Bounce Back

Two weeks into the season the Silvertips are 1-2 after losing their first two home games before rebounding with a solid victory against the Calgary Axemen on May 6.

The Tips opened their season against two highly ranked teams from last year's provincials. They lost their season opener 15-5 against the Okotoks Raiders, who beat the Tips to win bronze last year. The Tips lost a rough one, 11-3. against the Edmonton Saints, last season's silver medalist. Worse, three players were injured, including one who was hospitalized with broken ribs and internal injuries.

The Tips found their rhythm with a solid 21-2 thumping of the Calgary Axemen. Captain Jaimie Betterton was out with a concussion but helped rally the team from the bench.

The Rocky View team came out hard and scored early, sinking eight in the first period and letting in just one sneaker. Goals were scored by Annie Morrison from Kara Kondrat), rookie Cassidy O’Neill (Kondrat and affiliate Midget Hornet Livi Clason), Clason (O’Neill, Kondrat), Clason (Kondrat and Erin Greenan), Clason on breakaway, Kondrat on Breakaway, Clason (Kondrat, midget Rage affiliate Isabella Hardy) and Lauren Murphy, who just returned after being injured in the first game  (Greenan).

Second period, Goalie Payton Gammon and our defense shut out the Axemen. We opened on a four-minute powerplay and sunk two, with goals going to Murphy on a breakaway and Kondrat (Clason and Hardy). They scored four more to end of the second: Kondrat (Morrison), Greenan (Morrison), Kondrat (Murphy) and Morrison (Callie Hanger).

The Axemen scored their only other goal of the goal in the third period, while the Tips fired in seven more.  Scoring were: Murphy (Morrison), Clason (Kondrat, Morrison), O’Neill (Kondrat), Rookie Sarah Mcneill (Murphy, O’Neill), Clason, Morrison (Kondrat) and Clason (Morrison, Greenan) scored with 0.01 remaining in play.
