The Cochrane Generals didn't just answer the wake up call, they threw the phone across the room in a crucial 9-3 road win against the Coaldale Copperheads, Oct. 28.

The Gens went into one of the toughest barns in the Heritage Junior Hockey League to grind out a 7-2 lead by the end of the second then fend off any chance of a Copperheads' comeback in a brawl-filled third.

Both Jarod Domingo and Brandon Aab scored hattricks and It was also a three point night for Colton Wong who opened the scoring 43 seconds into the game and added two assists on Domingo goals. Scott Shugg had a goal and assist, and rookie defenceman Zach Cugnet scored his first of the season. Slater Ransom assisted on three to climb back to the top in the points earned column for the Gens. Assists were also awarded to Chris Sambrook, Harry Olser, Telus Hume and Braden Bain.

All three of the Copperhead goals came on powerplays.

The Gens are coming off a four game losing streak that saw them drastically outshoot and outplay most of their opponents but not be able to ruffle the mesh. Eleven games into the season, the Gens share the basement with the Medicine Hat Travelodge Cubs with identical  5-6 record, but last weekend's victory just might be the turning point they've been seeking.

Coaldale is second only to the division leading Okotoks Bisons and only six points separate first from last.

The Gens have a pair of home games this weekend against the south's top two teams and have a chance to gain some real estate in the standings. Saturday night they host the Okotoks Bisons and on Sunday it's game number three and their first home match against the Copperheads. The puck drops Saturay at 7:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday

In a rare midweek game, the Gens are on the road next Wednesday to take on the Mountainvew Colts in Didsbury.
