You may want to head to the gas station and fill up in advance of price increases anticipated by GasBuddy.

According to the nationwide monitor of gasoline prices, motorists should expect the price of gas to jump 8 to 12 cents a litre on top of the recent climb.

GasBuddy explains Alberta stations are currently selling the product at cost and believes a climb is coming that would put us over $1.10 per litre.

Gas prices on average dropped a fraction of a penny in Alberta last week and settled in at an average of 103.73 cents per litre, slightly below the average price in Cochrane. It compares favorably to the national average of 113.81 c/L. Edmonton continues the tradition of having lower gas prices than the Calgary. Currently it costs an average of 3 cents less per lite in the capital.

"The unseasonable rise in petroleum prices based in part on oil and geopolitical tensions continues to drive up pump prices across Canada for the forthcoming week," says Dan McTeague, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy. "Normally, gas prices tend to drop in the fall with lower demand and the end of refinery winter turnarounds. However, at an average of 114 cents a litre, gas prices in Canada are almost 10 cents a litre higher than this time last year and the highest average  for the fall since 2014 - before OPEC moved to flood the world with oil."
