The Junior Chef program is heating up with a little Mexican flare.

The Awko Taco Truck has rolled up to Cochrane's Boys and Girls Club to teach kids ages 10 to 13 how to make fresh tacos from scratch.

Nichole Williams, Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane and Area, Youth Worker, says they collaborated with Awko Taco to give the kids the opportunity to prepare a meal in a food truck.

“Today I invited Brian who runs the Awko Taco food truck to show the kids what it is like to be inside a food truck. They get to make their own homemade tortilla shells and the inside mixings and put their tacos together.”

The idea behind the program Williams says is to educate kids about making homemade meals and building skills; and not just buying convience foods.

“My inspiration is for kids to learn that you can make these foods fresh that you don't have to buy them from the store and then you know what is going into your foods.”

The program lasts nine weeks and the group's next cooking adventure is heading to The Boot, a new Italian restaurant in Cochrane.
