Cochranites, the Cochrane Arena your stories, photos, videos.

A campaign has been launched for the old barn in hopes of walking away with the $250,000 Hockeyville cash prize.

The arena is celebrating its 50th anniversary and this prize money would go a long way towards a retrofit of inside areas like the stands, dressing rooms and bathrooms, says Lisa Hyde, SLS Centre marketing and communications manager.

"As one of the fastest growing communities in Canada, ice demand in Cochrane is huge, and with no near-term plans for a new rink, keeping the Cochrane Arena open and in the best shape possible is critical to the success of Cochrane hockey," says Hyde.

The arena and SLS Centre are jointly administered by the Spray Lake Sawmills Recreation Park Society.

The competition begins with the nominate and rally phase, where you can take actions on the site to earn points for your community. You're encouraged to submit your stories. photos and videos about why the Cochrane Arena is important to you and the community. With a 50-year history, they'll be lots of stories to shared.

Then, Hockeyville judges will review all nominations and gather the total scores to select the finalists. Finally, the Top 4 communities will go head-to-head in a round of voting to determine the winner.

We have until 9:59 a.m. on Feb. 18 to make submissions.
