A man from Calgary is facing a list of charges after a traffic stop in Cochrane on the weekend.

RCMP pulled over a driver for an aggressive U-turn and window tint at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.

“The officer observed open liquor and cannabis within arms reach of the driver.” stated police in a news release.

The officer searched the vehicle and found a loaded pistol, bags of what is believed to be cocaine and other drug paraphernalia. 

Thirty-seven-year-old Iain Mcauley has been charged with several firearm related offences, some including:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition without licence
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking in a Schedule I Substance

Mcauley was held for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing and was remanded into custody. Mcauley’s first appearance date has been scheduled for June 25, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Cochrane.
