Information provided by motorists and residents played an important role in the RCMP in stopping and apprehending a man and woman in a stolen vehicle on Hwy. 22 just north of Hwy. 1 on Feb. 24.

That afternoon a vehicle was being driven erratically on eastbound Hwy. 1 and had evaded the Canmore RCMP. Along the way, the RCMP received several reports of the vehicle being driven in a reckless manner. The motorist had also committed a number of hit and runs.

"It took a few calls of suspicion vehicles to get into the right general area of where they were and eventually we did find them on Hwy. 22 just north of Hwy. 1, where the vehicle had pulled over and an RCMP officer came upon them walking away from it," says RCMP Cst. Kary Moore,

The female passenger was arrested immediately and the male driver was apprehended a short distance away.

Eric Eugene, 20, of no fixed address, faces over 10 charges, including possession over $5,000 in stolen property and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. Dominique Sam, 27, of Invermere, B.C., also faces multiple charges. Both suspects are scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Cochrane on Mar. 26.

Moore says both of the suspects are known to the RCMP in Invermere, B.C.

Calls from the public are instrumental in helping the RCMP, she says, and this is just one example. She says residents know when something's not quite right when there are strange activities or unknown vehicles in their area.

"They know when something's off so those are the people we count on to be our eyes and ears when we can not be everywhere at once."
