Megan Pelkey is from Bragg Creek but right now she is fortunate to be in a warmer climate in Orlando Florida.

The 16-year-old grade eleven student studies online because most of her time is spent waterskiing. Pelkey has been water skiing since the summer of 2017 and has been training in Florida since 2019 since she was 13 years old.

Megan recently returned from the 2022 IWWF Pan American Water Ski Championships in Santiago Chile. There Pelkey placed first overall, second in the tricks and jump event, and fourth in Slalom, saying, “It was nice to feel out the lake and get used to the site before the Junior Worlds.”

The 2022 IWWF World Under 17 Water Ski Championships is coming up fast on January 5-8, 2022, again in Chile where the Bragg Creek native will be competing in three events. Those events include Slalom, Tricks, and Jump. While she loves everything about the sport Pelkey would have to say that the trick event is her favourite to compete in.

Megan will not be alone on her trip to Chile, Canada will be well represented by ten athletes with six skiers participating in the Team Event and four skiers participating as individuals.
