The anticipated closure of a major intersection through Cochrane's downtown core closes tomorrow, Aug. 30.

The 1st St. intersection at Centre Ave. is a major thruway for traffic heading to and from Hwy. 1A. It's also a major connector to Griffin Rd, particularly for those heading to southern communities.

Temporary access has been established for those utilizing the main post office, 125 1 St E., and the Stitching Post, 185 1 St E. during ongoing construction on 1st St. E. A temporary gravel access has been established on Centre Ave. just south of the 1st St. intersection.

Town officials explain full closure of the intersection is required to remove and replace both the water main and storm system infrastructure. Crews will also replace East Cochrane's storm system.

Weather permitting, it is anticipated to take four weeks to complete.

They are recommending motorists use 5th Ave. as an alternative until the intersection reopens.
