With Remembrance Day coming up next week, the national poppy campaign is in full swing in Cochrane.

There are several ways Cochrane residents can support the Royal Canadian Legion Cochrane Branch.

Volunteer, Jackie Depper says "I'm here to support the Legion and the Vets, and I think the Poppy fund is just a really worthwhile project."

"We have these pins to replace the old fashioned pin in the poppy, they're $2 and chances are you won't lose your poppy with these inside pins, we have a couple of different kinds. And then we have a small package for $5 where you get both types of pins and a wristband."

Funds raised in Cochrane, stay local.

Residents also have the chance to purchase an indigenous dreamcatcher poppy pin at the Legion for $8.

"There are two feathers and in the middle there is an inukshuk."

Depper says her father was a World War II Veteran and volunteering for the Legion is something she and her family continue to do each year.

"I have sisters in Ontario who are also selling poppies for the Legion down there. So it's a family thing."

Volunteers are stationed at Canadian Tire, Save-On-Foods, Safeway, and Walmart from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily.
