The Jr. Ladies Silvertips have earned their first point of the season after a nail-biter of a game against the Calgary Axemen, Wednesday night.

With just 11 seconds left in regulation, the Silvertips pulled goalie Payton Gammon and it paid off with a tying goal by Christina Olver, assisted by Kara Kondrat, to tie the game and force overtime. The extra time proved fruitless for both teams and the game ended in a 5-5 tie.

Silvertips manager Heather Greenan praises the team's penalty kill squad in keeping the team's hopes alive in the game.

"We racked up 19 minutes in penalties but managed to kill all but one, so our penalty kill team is doing quite well," says Greenan.

Goalie Gammon closed the doors on the Axemen in a pivotal penalty shot save with just 23 seconds left in the third after the Silvertips took a penalty for too many men.

Annie Morrison scored two for the Silvertips, Kara Kondrat had one goal and an assist, Taylor McElroy scored unassisted and Christina Olver scored the winner. Zoe Baergen also earned an assist.

After three games in five days, the Silvertips get a bit of a break before they're back on the road to face the St. Albert Drillers on May 6 and Edmonton Saints, May 7.
