With money being added to the pot, Rocky View County (RVC) will be considering what their next FireSmart projects might be, but right now the priority is to complete two projects they have on the go.

Randy Smith, RVC director of diaster services and fire chief, said they have started to take a look at the additional funding being made available for FireSmart by the province and he's pleased with the support they have provided in the past.

"Rocky View has had awesome support from the province with regards to FireSmart and getting prepared so we've done response guides and we've done different strategy plans for different areas along the western border of Rocky View," says Smith.

"Now they've put a bunch more money in the pot, so we're looking at now doing some FireSmart treatments, taking a chunk of county property and in cleaning it up..But there's only so much time so we're trying to get these two projects finished off and then we'll look at what other projects we can do and just keep trying to access the province funding and picking projects."

Currently, RVC is working on  a Wildland Fire Response Guide for the Protected Forest north of Cochrane and Smith says that should be completely shortly.

They are also conducting the emergency exercise in Bragg Creek on Apr. 29 which is the third step in FireSmart planning for the hamlet.
