Residents are invited to experience the taste of together at next Wednesday's dinner and silent auction fundraiser for the Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee (CISC).

This special event is being held at the Thanh Thy restaurant, 103-521 1 St, W. in the Historic Downtown on May 22 from 5 to 7 p.m.

"This will help to connect the people in the community with the newcomers," says CISC president Kristina Kindree. "People will get to experience different cultures and connect with people with different backgrounds. It's going to be great."

Guest speaker is Bukola Ojemakinde, executive director of both the Ladies in the Foundation and Bridge to Oasis Foundation. She is a project engineer for a Calgary oil and gas company and an ardent community servant, who founded both of these nonprofit organizations.

"Her topic will be something relevant to our immigrant and newcomers community for sure, so I think it's going to be interested in terms of what topic she will bring to the table that day."

Multiple items have been donated by local businesses for the silent auction, including gift cards and gift baskets.

The auction can be done online or in person during the event. A list of the items up for grabs will be released in advance.

"Our local businesses in Cochrane have been very generous, and a big shout out to Thanh Thy for collaborating with us on this event."

Tickets can be purchased in advance by emailing ciccochrane@gmail.com or at the door.

"We prefer that people pre-purchase so the Tanh Thy can make sure they have enough food for everyone that day, because it can be quite busy."

Funds will help support CISC projects and activities, including their extremely popular CultureFest in the fall.

The $25 tickets include a vermicelli bowl, spring roll and a soft drink. There are chicken or vegetarian options available.
