Cochrane RCMP responded to an off road vehicle rollover by McLean Creek on Saturday, June 4.

Just before 1 pm, RCMP along with EMS (from Priddis), and Kananaskis Emergency Services arrived at McLean Creek Trail for reports of an injured All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) rider.

Upon arrival, a group of bystanders explained that a male in his early teens was injured and located a fair distance into the back country.

RCMP say a father and his 14 year old son were operating a side by side when it rolled injuring the father and critically injuring his son.

Due to the terrain of the area, Kananaskis Emergency Service Personnel had to be long lined into the area. The team was able to free the youth and take him to waiting paramedics and a STARS Air Ambulance flight team.

EMS ground and air teams worked on the scene to revive the boy, who was determined deceased on the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

RCMP say both father and son were wearing helmets, and alcohol nor speed are believed to be factors at this time.

RCMP along with Calgary Medical Examiner's will be conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident.

No names are being released at this time.
