It's the last long weekend of the summer, and that means Cochrane RCMP will be out in full force monitoring traffic for violations.

Today, Sep. 2, RCMP will have a strong presence in the town as the Tour of Alberta passes through Cochrane.

Cochrane RCMP Sergeant Dave Hardy says there are many Provincial and Local police involved in the bike race.

"The RCMP and Alberta Sheriffs are directly involved in making sure the cyclists can get from point A to point B safely." he says. "The Cochrane detachment resources are looking after the route that goes directly through town, and provincial traffic resources are looking after all the highways out of town."

As for the rest of the Labour Day long weekend, RCMP will be focusing on speeders and impaired drivers, putting more emphasis on roads inside town as the Cochrane Lions Rodeo is this weekend.
