Cochranites filled the Taphouse Bar & Grill, opened their wallets and raised a record amount for the 9th Annual Hair of the Dog fundraiser.

It was a full house, sold out event on May 13, and $53,020 was raised for the Cochrane & Area Humane Society.

Fundraiser co-founder and organizer Kendra Watt said it's remarkable.

"In one night, that's a pretty incredible number and that's all thanks to the generosity of the people in Cochrane. It blows my mind that every year they step up in a huge way."

Watt said the event grows every year and the momentum continues to build as they look towards the 10th annual event next year.

"We know that we're going to try to do something bigger and better. I honestly don't know how we're going to top this. We really thought that if we ever made it to ten years, that we would have to do something huge. We've got a full year to plan it."

The money will be used to help care for animals at the Cochrane & Area Humane Society.
