After six years and a lot of hard work, Rocky Mountain Motorsports is hopeful their new racetrack will be set to open this summer. The racetrack, meant for motorcycles and cars will be located east of Carstairs. The 3.5-KM track will fill the hole left for racing enthusiasts when southeast Calgary’s Race City Motorsport Park closed in 2011.

The privately funded track will cost $25 million, with that money coming from investors as well as membership sales.

CEO, Dominic Young says, "We are selling memberships, we expect to sell 300 memberships and at this point in time, over 200 people have registered with us and applied to have a membership. And essentially what we will be doing is allocating 50% of all of the track time to the membership. That will be run with a booking system, organized much like booking a tee-time at a golf course."

Young also says, "That most vehicles that will use the facility are really of a street legal nature. It is going to be very much a user facility. So we are not really looking for spectators and stands and that kind of thing."

Rocky Mountain Motorsports believes the other 50% of the track time will be utilized by car clubs, performance driving schools, manufacturers and dealers.

The track is being designed by Hermann Tilke, a German engineer who has also developed Formula One raceways. He is known to be the leading track designer in the world.
