Rocky View County (RVC) has become the first Alberta municipality in central and southern Alberta to reach logo status with STARS.

Weather permitting, a STARS helicopter will arrive at the RVC County Hall for the logo unveiling during a county open house and pancake breakfast on Thursday morning.

Since 1991, RVC has been contributing to STARS through a municipal initiative program and has now reached the $500,000 threshold required to receive logo status. Eighteen years ago they made their first donation of $38,000 and over the years increased their contributions.

"As a rural community, seconds count and STARS is there for us," says RVC Reeve Greg Boehlke. "In 2018, STARS landed in our region multiple times to provide care for patients in our community. The nature of the partnership is clear--helping to safeguard lives."

STARS Foundation executive vice-president Wendy Beauchesne says financial contributions like those of RVC are essential to keep STARS in the air and to help place the right tools in the hands of the best talent.

"This doesn't just save time in responding to the critically ill and injured patients, it saves lives. We are incredibly grateful to the RVC council members for your leadership and dedication that ensures the sustainability of STARS emergency services for your residents."

STARS embarked upon its first mission in 1985. It operates 24/7 from bases in Calgary, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Regina, Saskatoon and Winnipeg.

The breakfast and open house go from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Rocky View County Hall, 262075 Rocky View Pt. Besides pancakes, it includes a petting zoo, family activities, entertainment, fire trucks, graders and equipment displays.
