Rocky View Schools officials say they have implemented measures to do their part in conserving water where possible during Cochrane's state of emergency.

"This may include measures such as postponing lessons where labs would require water (such as foods, culinary art, some arts classes), not showering after physical education classes, minimizing water usage in extra-curricular activities where possible, consideration for postponement of some activities and cancellation of community use bookings," they state.

They're also asking families visiting Cochrane for sports to bring their own water and refills.

"This is not a conclusive list and may include other measures."

Students and staff continue to use water in the washrooms for handwashing and flushing toilets in school as normal. Water fountains remain open for drinking water.

"We appreciate this can be a stressful time and we will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our students in responding to this situation."

The division says it will advise parents of any changes in the status.
