It’s only been two years since Albertans weighed in on the time change, but the UCP government is wading into the debate once again.

Albertans have been springing forward and falling back for 50 years now.

The former NDP government launched a consultation process in 2017 asking whether or not we should scrap the time change.

A government survey received 13,000 responses. Around 10,000 said they wanted to see the twice-yearly clock changes come to an end.

However, Bill 203 was rejected unanimously by an all-party legislature committee after concerns from businesses like WestJet and professional sports groups raised concerns about how the lack of a time change could harm some local businesses.

Now, the UCP is asking Albertans to have a say once again.

“When we consider our neighbouring provinces, for example, the government of BC tabled legislation in October moving the province to summer hours all year long,” says a statement ahead of the current online survey. “Saskatchewan does not adjust its clocks twice a year.”

There are also several U.S states like Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Nevada, Oregon, Tennessee and Washington in which legislation has passed to move to summer hours on a permanent basis.

Albertans are again being encouraged to have their say. The online survey will be taking place until December 10th, 2019. If you would like to weigh in on the matter click HERE.
