Show Your Ride for Brandon has a new location for 5th edition right in the heart of Calgary.

Two huge parking lots of the Calgary Stampede grounds will host the event on Aug. 26 that last year drew over 5,000 people, 759 vehicles and a featured a full day of auto-related activities for the whole family.

Held in memory of Brandon Thomas and aimed at driving home the message "don't drink and drive," is a much larger location for the event that continues to grow each year.

"We're really excited to be at Stampede Park this year," says Kim Thomas, Brandon's mother, who founded the event with her daughter Kayla and family and friends in 2014.

The event is in the early stages of development, but already confirmed to return are McIntrye Crane and Rigging with their Crane Lifts, CCMR Dyno, the Teamsters 362 stage, Wild Bills DJ Services, the popular Kid's Parade introduced last year and Zeebs Battle of the Techs. There's also a huge assortment of prizes from a giant raffle and a 50/50 draw.

Right now the push is on for sponsorships of cash and merchandise. Thomas says the Stampede Park was very generous but it's still a more costly location and sponsorships are important.

"We've got some really great returning sponsors and we're always looking for new ones. It's all greatly appreciated. This support is what enables us to host the event and to continue."

Show Your Ride raised $20,297.12 last August that was split between annual scholarships for SAIT and Cochrane High School, the Show Your Ride for Brandon Victims Fund, Enny Autism and MADD Canada.

It just keeps growing and that's encouraging for the organizing committee.

"It just keeps growing. It's amazing. As heartbreaking as the situation is, this event is what keeps us going. We know we're doing something positive, we know we have the support of the people that attend and the sponsors and we know we're making a difference and Brandon is making a difference in the way impaired driving is viewed. We're just grateful to everybody involved."

This year's proceeds will continue to support the two scholarships and victims fund and two other causes will be decided upon by the organizing committee in the near future. By the time this year's event is held, the organization will be a registered charity and be able to issue tax-deductible receipts, says Thomas.

Those showing their rides pay $20 to participate and aren't required to pay standard Stampede parking fee of $15. Those not registering for the event will be required to pay that $15 fee to park on the Stampede grounds.
