Taking a step back and playing a more relaxed, fluent game lead to three goals in the third and 6-2 win over the Central Alberta Amazons by the Cochrane Chaos, Oct. 22.

The Amazons took a 2-1 lead eight minutes to the third before the Chaos fought back to regain a 3-2 lead on team captain Kaley Mueller's first of three goals.

During the second-period intermission, head coach Derek Loomer says they discussed what it would take to win.

"We talked about how we've got to get relaxed, we've got to get mentally focused, and get our passes harder. So, start with that and then build on that momentum and take it to them," he says. "The girls have so much energy that they can store up. They can draw on that when they're mentally ready, and I think that's what came through in the third."

Chaos Captain Mueller says it's her third hattrick since joining the team in their 2019-20 season. She gives a lot of credit to her linemates.

"My linemates on the last one were really pushing for me to get that third, so it's thanks to them," she says.

She says she has confidence in her teammates.

"We're definitely a third-period team. We always bring it in the third."

Also scoring for the Chaos were Callie Cummins, Sarah Gaiser, and Brooklyn Carels.

The Chaos outshot the Amazons, 47 to 12. Twenty of those shots came in the third.

The Chaos remain second in the south division of the Alberta Junior Female Hockey League with a 6-2 record, one point behind the Lethbridge Eagles.

They host the Irma Chargers on Saturday. Puck drops at 4:30 p.m. in Totem One.
