UPDATE: The Snow Squall Warning has been lifted.

Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for Cochrane and the surrounding areas. 

The national weather service says an east-west oriented line of intense snowfall and strong winds is located from 5 km north of Cochrane to Carbon and is currently moving to the south at 40 km/h.

As a result, visibility can be rapidly reduced to near zero in snow and blowing snow.

Drivers are being warned to expect poor conditions that include reduced visibility. 

Environment Canada issues snow squall warnings when brief but intense bursts of heavy snow occur producing near zero visibilities.

Also included in the warning are:

  • Mountain View Co. near Carstairs and Stirlingville
  • Mountain View Co. near Cremona and Water Valley
  • Rocky View Co. near Airdrie and Crossfield
  • Rocky View Co. near Bottrel and Madden
