Oct. 26 wasn't a good day for Calgary resident John Cortez, 24, to be caught speeding while travelling Hwy. 1.

Cortez and passenger Tyler Schatschneider, 32, are now scheduled to appear today (Oct. 29) in Cochrane Provincial Court to face an arm's length of charges, including possession of over $6,000 in stolen property.

Cortez was originally pulled over by an Alberta Sheriff, but upon discovering he was in breach of release conditions from other recent property offenses, the RCMP were called in.

The ensuing criminal investigation lead to the discovery of break-in tools, over $6,000 worth of stolen electronics and various goods, gift cards, credit cards, bank cards, a credit card reader, numerous cell phones, a mask, and counterfeit US currency.

The controlled substance methamphetamine was also recovered.

Additional charges are pending, says RCMP Cpl. Susan Richter.
