Cochrane is known for hosting a lot of great events including the long-running Cochrane Classic Bull Riding.

For 19 years, Cochrane Classic has showcased the best bull riders and rankest bulls from all over the world giving spectators a night of thrills and spills they won't soon forget. Named Best Bull Riding Event in Canada for 2018 by Bull Riders Canada (BRC), Cochrane Classic Bull Riding is once again gearing up for another action-packed show at the Cochrane Ag Grounds.

Jason Borton, the Organizer, says he is looking forward to stiff competition in the arena as the world's top bull riders vie for the high score on the evening of August 17th. "This year we've got some super good guy's coming, and we've got the top thirty in the BRC. They are riding really good, and I have been watching the standings, I am expecting a lot of great bull rides that night."

This is the third year Borton has hosted the event in conjunction with the Cochrane Fair weekend, and while he's not certain who will come out on top, he has his thoughts. "I think it may be one of the Brazilians that is coming. Italo Aguilar has won two or three events, and we also have Marcos Gloria coming, and he has won the Calgary Stampede, he was last year's 100,000 dollar winner."

Attracting the best of the best from all around the world is something Borton is certainly proud of but says it couldn't be done alone. "We are the biggest money event in all of Canada, so many of the riders want to get there. There is 10,000 dollars up for grabs and a 1,400 dollar buckle that we are giving away as well. After nineteen years people know the event, we have a pretty good following, and sponsors see the value in it. We just have great community support."

This year's show will feature Pow Wow dancing during intermission, food for purchase from the on-site food trucks, a family-friendly beer gardens hosted by the Venue Bar and Grill, and a dance with live music performed by the Blake Reid Band.

Although there was a rumour flying around that Borton himself was getting back in the ring, he shares there is absolutely no truth to that. "It is more fun to just watch it now and put it on than it is to get on. It's a lot safer."

Thrilled to be in partnership with the Cochrane Fair again, Borton says this year they are really pulling out all the stops. "This is probably the biggest the fair has ever been with all the events they are having; it is going to be such a great day with bull riding and a dance to follow."
