The ripple effects of extreme cold weather include the postponement of tonight's Cochrane Generals home game against the Ponoka Stampeders.

At this time, the road trip to Rocky Mt. House tomorrow is still a go.

The Gens have been struggling to find some consistency in their play. Even though the Stampeders have just one win on the season, Gens head coach Kurtis Jones says they weren't going to go into the game thinking it was in the bag.

"We haven't been on a winning streak, so I'm not going to take any team lightly, and I'm not going to change our game plan to think that it's an automatic two points because of the way we've been playing lately," said Jones before the game was cancelled.

He expects stiff competition from the Rams tomorrow.

"Rocky's always a battle, they're a good team, and we need to make sure we're playing."

Last weekend, the Gens went into their road game against the High River Flyers as the favourites, but lost 10-3.

Jones says it had nothing to do with goaltending, and more to do with the mindset.

"High River played a very good game and took advantage of the opportunities they had. Our guys sat back and watched and thought we were just going in there and getting two points, no problem. Hopefully they learned from it."

One night later, they showed better form, losing 4-3 in overtime to the powerhouse Okotoks Bisons, who haven't lost a home game this season.

Twelve regular season games remain in the Gens schedule, and they currently sit fourth in the south, four points behind the Coaldale Copperheads with a game in hand. Jones says the race is so tight in the south that any team having a bad weekend could take a plunge in the standings.

"We want to make the playoffs, but we also want to be a spot where we can compete in the playoffs. If you put in the effort as we did against Okotoks, yeah, we're OK. But our guys seem to get off the game plan and effort-wise we're inconsistent. We have to focus on competing on 60 minutes."
