The Calgary Police Service (CPS) has taken over the investigation on the torched vehicle recovered yesterday just south of town on the Towers Trail.

Cpl. Troy Savinkoff of the Cochrane RCMP said when they arrived on the scene the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

"We were notified fairly early into our investigation that this vehicle could be related to some criminal investigations in Calgary," says Savinkoff. "So upon the fire department putting out the fire, we secured the area and called the Calgary city police, who did attend and took over that portion of the investigation."

The CPS suspects the vehicle may be connected to the fatal shooting of a man and his dog in Calgary's southwest Crestmont neighborhood.

Calgary Police say the shooting took place at about 1:30 p.m. on July 7 in the 500 block of Cresthaven Place SW. Upon arrival by EMS, the victim was declared deceased.

The police say it is believed the suspect(s) fled the area in a vehicle, and it may be related to the unoccupied vehicle subsequently recovered by the Cochrane RCMP.

At this time, investigators believe this was not a random attack.

The investigation continues.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Calgary Police by calling the non-emergency number at 403-266-1234 or submitting an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers.
