The town is coordinating the removal of approximately 20 trees to support the advancement of the Hwy 1A /22 interchange project. 

In a release, Mayor Jeff Genung stated that the Town is working with Alberta Transportation to on the necessary steps to make the long-awaited project a reality.

"Council and Administration continue to work with Alberta Transportation to remove barriers and pave the path to see this project advance," says Genung.

According to the release, a survey of the site took place on Wednesday, February 23. and it was determined that about 20 highway adjacent trees will need to be cleared for the advancement. Town officials say that the majority of the mature trees will be "protected with respect to preserving key ecosystem components and preserving Cochrane’s natural spaces." 

The release goes on to say that before any trees are cleared, the area will be reviewed by a biologist to "confirm there are no established bird nests." 

The formal construction of the interchange project is anticipated to start in the fall of 2022.
