In a letter to students, the University of Calgary says that from Thursday, September 16 to Sunday, September 19 all in-person classes will be canceled to regroup and adjust to the announcement made by the provincial government last night (Wednesday, September 15).

The U of C says, “We will assess the situation in the next few days and follow-up on the status of future classes. Online classes and the online portion of blended classes will continue as scheduled. Research operations can remain open with 2-metres social distancing and mandatory masks. Staff should continue to work from home unless required for campus operations.”

In the letter, the U of C confirmed that it is a highly vaccinated environment thanks to their COVIDsafe Campus program.  To date, 37,103 members of the campus community have already taken steps to be on campus with 91.3 per cent already fully immunized.

Once the new proof of vaccination documents is established in Alberta it will be determined how it will be worked into the U of C’s vaccination status program.

The letter also addressed the constantly evolving COVID-19 situation and the toll it is taking on mental health. Links for support were provided for students, faculty and staff who need it.
