This afternoon (June 4) at 4:30 p.m., the Town of Cochrane will be officially placed under a fire advisory.

In a statement released by Cochrane Fire Sevices, it reads the decision to implement the advisory was made due to current and anticipated weather conditions, and the advisory is placing Cochrane in the moderate risk zone.

While residents are still able to enjoy a fire in an approved receptacle, all open air burning is prohibited at this time.

Residents are reminded to be extra vigilant when using open flames. This means taking extra steps to soak the ground area adjacent to your fire pit, ensure all smoking materials are properly extinguished and disposed of in non-flammable containers, and ensure those containers are cold prior to disposal into any waste receptacle.

The Fire Advisory will remain in effect until such time as the Fire Chief’s Office deems conditions are appropriate to meet the purposes of the Forest and Prairie Protection Act and the Town of Cochrane Fire Bylaw.

For further information, please contact Cochrane Fire Services at 403-851-2540. If you are headed out of town this weekend, be informed of any/all advisories and bans in effect within Alberta, by going HERE.
