Veteran Hunters received a financial lift during the recent Grand Valley Safari Club's fundraising evening.

Thanks to the safari club's annual charity event, the organization for veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder were able to raise funds for a series of hunts.

Before that, they had been struggling to get the financial support they needed from federally funding veterans organizations.

Todd Hisey says the night was epic.

He says "To see a community like Cochrane rally to show their appreciation and their support and their compassion for Canadian veterans was just fantastic."

Hisey says the hunts are proving therapeutic for the veterans.

"You know when we are able to get together with veterans it's just not always about the hunting. It's also about communicating as a group and making sure that guys are getting the proper care that they need or are entitled to based on various agreements from the government.

Without any financial assistance, they were able to organize hunts for 50 veterans in their first year of operation.

They have several hunts in the planning stages in both Alberta and Ontario.
