Kings, Queens, and Knights, oh my!

This past Saturday (July 22) the Cochrane Public Library held the second annual Medieval Day.  A steady crowd was seen throughout the day as fantasy lovers young and old came together to celebrate a time long ago.

Main organizer Gail Ames, spearheaded the event in 2016 was pleased to see continued growth. "I think it was amazing, everybody did an awesome job we pitched in and got everything done. Big and better than last year, more people came."

There was no shortage of activities for participants to partake in, and the crowds absolutely loved all the action. For Ames, a few activities really stood out.

"Callum the Storyteller, he was amazing. He went from inside the library to outside the library and the kids just thought he was the bomb, he had them just enthralled. The knights went to it, we had some new knights out there and they were clashing, banging and denting armor. We had a mead garden this year and I think it will only get bigger and better too."

Where does Medieval Day go from here?! With rumours of extending the event and maybe one day even jousting, Ames, says they will have to see. "We would like to keep building Medieval Day a bit bigger and better every year. Next year we will have to look at space and decide whether we should move it to a bigger area and maybe make it a two day event."

The best part for the library, shares Ames, is community members start to realize the library is more than just a place to get books. "We actually looked at the Brooks Medieval Faire as a model for our event. It is really a community event that shows Cochrane people what we are all about and it brings so many people together for the day."
