Loading up the family and taking a tour around town to check out Christmas lights is a tradition enjoyed by many.

Fortunately, Cochrane has many incredible Christmas displays to make it a fun voyage of discovery. Each year, more must-see homes are added to the list. Several of those who anchored the tour change up their display each year, making it well worth a return visit.

Among those making an outing are residents of the Bighill Lodge. They hop on the bus to tour part of the community and pick their favourites. The top three are each awarded with a handcrafted keepsake to recognize their efforts.

This year they recognized the following homes:

house 1Brian & Diane Low, 8 Glenpatrick Court

1st Choice:  A tie between neighbours Brian & Diane Low and Chris & Cindy Faupel, 8 & 10 Glenpatrick Court.

Families who tour the community for Christmas lights have included this small court in the Glenbow neighbourhood as a destination for multiple generations. Over a thousand drive by every year to see the displays that change annually. On the night these photos were taken, 50 people fill vehicles that slowly drove by in a matter of 15 minutes

Chris says going all out at Christmas has been a proud tradition of some of the families on the court even before his family moved there. For Chris, the decorating runs in the family. He says his dad annually dressed up their home in Canmore and it became known as the Halloween/Christmas house.

He says the decorating did tone down for a few years on Glenpatrick Court.

"And then me and my wife bought here. We started decorated and everybody else started decorating again."

"We've all got garages full of decorations and we switch things up every year."

One lady who came by, said she came to see the lights with her parents and her parents did it before she was born. Now, she brings her baby.

"So that's three generations. That's kind of cool."

Chris says it's all about sharing the joy of Christmas.

"It's just nice to see everybody enjoy it."

house 2

2nd Choice:  Eden & Gresal Tapulao, 2 West Terrace Dr.

house 3

3rd Choice:  Uwe Eckert 17 Carolina Dr.

Those unable to find time to take a tour yet fortunately have a little time left before the displays come down and lights are turned off until next year.
