The second of two basketball championships over the weekend was another thrilling come-from-behind win.

It was McDonald's taking home the Sunday Hoops summer league championship over Cochrane Toyota, 108-102, in an all-Cochrane final of the regional league.

McDonald's was behind by 10 points at the half and seven after the third quarter before chipping away at the lead. With about two minutes remaining, they took the lead and held on for the win.

It was Toyota who went undefeated to finish first in the regular season.

"They have a very good shooter," says Jason Maddara, of the McDonald's team. "Most of their guys can shoot three, can go and play inside, everything."

Teammate Dexter Capillo says when Toyota's big player got fouled out they took advantage of it and focussed on defence.

It was an eight-team league with teams from across the Calgary region and as far north as Olds, explains organizer Mike Bautista.

Bautista says basketball continues to grow in popularity locally and that's helping to attract more teams to come to Cochrane to compete. He says they continue to encourage young players to come and enjoy the game.

"That's our goal and also our goal is to promote our health, camaraderie, and sportsmanship."

Sunday Hoops has become an early Sunday morning staple in the gym of the SLS Centre. Soon, a winter league will begin.
