Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary is taking over the Globe Cinema in Calgary Monday (May 15, 2023) night for a very special event.

“It is really a sneak peek into the inner workings of Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary and really taking a deep dive into the history and the origins of how the sanctuary actually got started,” says Kara Dowhaniuk, fundraising and events manager for the Sanctuary.

The highlight of the event will be the screening of the documentary, "Between Dog and Wolf," directed by Jason Smith. The film offers a glimpse into the world of the sanctuary and its mission to rescue and care for wolfdogs.

“The documentary is about 30 minutes in length that really shows some of the trials and tribulations that Georgina the founder actually had to go through to start Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary and why she started and the story of her first wolfdog, Kuna, who is actually still at the sanctuary.”

The event lands on Kuna’s 14th birthday and a special Q&A panel will be hosted after the screening with founder Georgina De Caigny.

“The crowd is going to be able to ask her any questions that they have budding and brewing in their mind,” says Dowhaniuk. “It’s pretty exciting and the first of its kind for us.”

Funds from ticket sales will go directly back to the Sanctuary. “We have 43 permanent residents rescue wolfdogs, and really we're looking to raise funds for their veterinary care and meals.”

“We feed each animal about two to three pounds a day, which almost equates to about 120 to 130 pounds each and every day, which is quite a bit. We also want to build enrichment, platforms and structures for these animals to get their brain stimulated, get them physically active.”
