The 'Writer-In-Residence' program is a way to champion reading and writing.

The Cochrane Public Library is reviving the program after 10 years and champion Martin Parnell is the perfect fit.

Friday evening, Parnell spent time introducing himself and talking about his journey of hating english and reading at a young age to becoming a five time novelist.

Parnell is thrilled at the opportunity this program will provide, and says his evening sessions over the next 9 months will be beneficial to budding novelists.

"I have noticed a lot of people are journaling, are blogging, want to write their own book, but don't know how to go about it. Of course these days there's many ways if you want to take it to the next level of getting it either published or self published, it is a whole other world there; but it is all very doable."

Some key topics will be discussed at his remaining evening workshops during his residency.

"The three others I have planned are how to get your book published, from book to blog, and a special children's workshop how to make your own graphic comic, even big children can come."

Parnell will also be available 9- 11 a.m. Tuesday's on October 11,18, 25, November 8,22, 29, December 13, 20, and 27, to ask questions and pick his brain on anything writing related.

Parnell adds though it can be a journey, anyone if they desire, can write a book.

"Everybody's got a book in them, you just have to decide what book it is."

Parnell will also be launching his fifth book 'Running to the Edge' on November 12, 1-3 pm at the Cochrane Public Library.
