The ProPak Crush were true to form and had a big fourth inning to grab a narrow lead in the Alberta Little League District 3 senior ball tier 2 final, last night. but it wasn't destined to last. The Cochrane Emergency Training Services (CETS) Crush rallied in the bottom of the sixth to take an insurmountable lead and claim the championship.

CETS came back to tie the game in the fifth then rallied with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. ProPak attempted a comeback with their last bats but they were shut down.

During the medals presentation, the teams, District 3 rep Corey Hein told the teams how impressed he was with the game and the success of Cochrane teams. He commended both teams on an exciting final that went a full seven innings. Not all finals do, he noted, pointing to the tier 1 final the night previous that saw the mercy rule applied.

The ProPak Crush senior team were runners-up.

CETS went undefeated in the playoffs after finishing in the middle of the pack in the regular season.

"The boys played well," says Head Coach Brad Luft. "They stuck it out and it was a good season. I'm proud of them; they're a good bunch."

He also says they were dedicated to improving their game and attendance neared 100 per cent during their twice-weekly practices. 

"There was a lot of improvement. They're a really good group of kids and a really good group of parents."

Coach Todd Hisey says the ProPak's play in the post-season play was their best. They won four of their six playoff games after going 3-7 in the regular season.

"The boys were really coming around and our pitching was awesome in the games that we won. It was a great team to coach."

Last weekend, the two Cochrane teams emerged from the tier 2 playoff round-robin as the top contenders in the Calgary area league.
