The Cochrane Chaos are determined to tie up the AJFHL best-of-five championship series today after dropping game one to the Sherwood Park Steele in overtime last night, 3-2.

The Steele struck first midway through the second after dominating the play in the opening stanza. That was the wakeup call the Chaos needed to show the prowess that carried them to top spot in the regular season.

Audrey Buston got the Chaos on the board four minutes later, assisted by Summer Gibbons, but the determined defending league champions regained the lead 27 second later.

Audrey Buston put the Chaos on the scoreboard midway through the second.

With 1:07 remaining in regulation, Breanna Martin took a cross-ice feed from Kaylin Herman to rifle the tying goal low on the stick side of Steele netminder Chloe Sanderson. The Steele dashed their hopes of a come-from-behind win at the 3:29 mark of overtime on Allison Bernet's second goal of the night. Kensie Hryhorak scored the other Steele goal.

Chaos head coach Derek Loomer was true to his word when he said it would be the most intense series of the season and it's well worth the admission. It was physical and aggressive with the momentum shifting throughout the game. Both teams notched over 30 shots apiece.

"We played well enough and we had our chances, tied it late, and everything was setting up for the big come-from-behind win. We just didn't get that one shot we needed in the overtime," says Loomer.

"But these guys are so resilient I expect them to recover quickly tonight and we'll be ready to go tomorrow."

Game 2 goes today at 2:15  in Totem One of the SLS Family Sports Centre in Cochrane.
