There's a mighty little team within the University of Calgary Gymnastics program at the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre and they're having a blast.

You can find the Mitey Mites, ages 4 and 5, practising twice a week under Coach Colette after they tried out for a spot on the team in the fall.

The youngsters are having fun learning the basics of gymnastics, physical literacy, flexibility and strength, and being treated as a little team within the club. They even have their own matching training suits.

The functional movements of gymnastics can also help prepare youth for many other sports, including hockey lacrosse, soccer, baseball. Beyond sports, it also allows them to master the way their bodies move and that's a big plus for any kind of physical activity.

The Mitey Mites will not compete until they are older, usually age 7+, but they love their training and their coach and their progress since September has been leaps and bounds.

Spring registration is now underway for gymnastic programs offered here by the University of Calgary and you can find more info here.
