Peter Guthrie of the UCP will be the first MLA to represent the new riding of Airdrie-Cochrane after tonight's provincial election where the UCP became the new government.

With 43 of 97 polls reporting Guthrie has picked up 4,111 votes, more than double that of Steve Durrell representing the NDP who finished second in the riding.

Guthrie will have lots of company in Edmonton.  The UCP party is leading or elected in 61 seats and will carry a strong majority into the legislature.
