Half Hitch Brewing Company is doing its part. The brewery is one of the hundreds of operators worldwide to take on a recipe from Ukraine-based Pravda Beer Theatre to raise money for the war-torn country in an international relief effort called Brew for Ukraine. Chris Heier, president and brewmaster, explains. " It's kind of a no-brainer, to me it was let's do something about it. I have always been a proponent of humanitarian efforts having volunteered for the Red Cross personally." He continues " we have the capabilities, we have the spare tank so let's make something happen."

Pravda released five recipes from the company's casks, Half Hitch already had most of the ingredients on hand for a strong golden ale " We have been blessed to actually get a lot of our suppliers to jump on board and donate ingredients."

The name is derived from a term that originated in Ukraine in 2014 at the onset of the Russo-Ukrainian War. It is a phrase used to express contempt toward Russian president Vladmir Putin.

The project is a zero-profit initiative. Suppliers have graciously donated raw materials to support the brew and 100% of the proceeds of sales will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross.

The ale will be canned around mid-April with all proceeds going to the Canadian Red Cross Society in support of humanitarian efforts in the war-torn country. " This is the next best thing I can do, try to commit some of our resources with the brewery because we know the Red Cross are providing a lot of humanitarian support for people out in that area."

The beer will be sold in four-packs and can be pre-ordered through cochrane@halfhitchbrewing.ca.
