There's now a zero next to Cochrane on Alberta Health Services' COVID-19 map.

That wipes out the two cases charted yesterday and the six we had in town last week.

Across Alberta, the number of active cases rose by 18 to 1,125.

Though that's great news, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, reminds people we're likely to be battling the virus into 2021.

In her last live update on Aug. 6, Dr. Hinshaw says we need to stay the course in practising COVID-19 protocol.

"The hard truth is that we will likely still be fighting COVID-19 in 2021, so we do need to build good daily habits now. We have come far from March, but the basic health measures require to limit the spread remain the same."

In the last 24 hours, the number of deaths attributed to the virus rose to 208, from 205.
