The inaugural 'Busk’n Bragg' will showcase both local musical talent and performers throughout the quaint hamlet of Bragg Creek on Saturday, August 31st.

Several artistic and creative performers have signed up for the first Busk'n Bragg day as they look to entertain both community members and those visiting the area.

Jennifer Jurkowski, Administrator and Public Relations Specialist for the Bragg Creek & Area Chamber of Commerce, is excited to bring this event to town. "We have about 12 buskers that we will be able to spread out, which is pretty good. I think we will have a pretty good turn out and The Powderhorn Saloon and Rockies also gave permission for the buskers to rotate through there on their stages. Each busker will have a schedule, and they will rotate through different locations in Bragg Creek, so they aren't stuck in one spot the whole time."

With this being the first event of its kind in the hamlet, Jurkowski is keeping location sites fair for all. "I don't know how it is all going to go or which locations will be the busiest. I don't want any of the buskers to feel they were stuck at the end of a street with no one coming, or to feel like it never worked out for them. I want to give a chance for them all to have prime locations throughout the day."

Deciding to host and organize Busk'n Bragg was easy, shares Jurkowski, believing it is the perfect fit. "During the summer, we always want people to walk around Bragg Creek and visit the stores rather than just coming to use the trails and leaving. So we are hoping people will stop in, see what's going on, and listen to some music. We are also seen as an artistic community, and I think this reaffirms it."

While there is no cost to attend, Jurkowski encourages people to carry cash to show your appreciation to the buskers, if you enjoy their performance. "I am really hoping the public can throw a little money their way while they walk around."

Still accepting performers, Jurkowski says any interested street performer can email her at office@braggcreekchamber.com. Buskers could be any musician, singer, performer, or street artist.

As you go around Bragg on the 31st, attendees are encouraged to pick up a sweet souvenir. "This year, I was able to get seven or eight different colours of guitar picks that say Busk'n Bragg. They all have different company logos on the back of the businesses that supported this, so when you come out, try to collect all the colours. It is just a fun component."

Hoping to grow this event over the coming years, Jurkowski is hoping Busk'n Bragg brings value to both the community and performing buskers.

Busk'n Bragg runs from noon until 4 p.m. next Saturday (August 31st). Buskers will be set up at both central shopping locations, the Painted Moose, Rockies and The Powderhorn Saloon.
