UPDATE: The Junior Chef Program is now completely full!

Original story below.

The virtual Junior Chef program is back by popular demand!

The popular cooking program put on by the Boys & Girls Club of Cochrane & Area is for kids age nine to 12 years old and it's completely free.

The Fall edition was a huge hit, and spots completely filled up within an hour of opening.

Bethany Poettcker is Youth Worker with the club and she says that this time around they will be holding two separate Junior Chef programs.

"We're actually going to be running two junior chefs, one for Cochrane youth and we're also running one for Bragg Creek youth age nine to 12," says Poettcker. "Both of those sessions will take place on Thursdays."

All ingredients for the recipes will be supplied by the Boys & Girls Club for the Cochrane chefs. Poettcker says that they won't be able to supply ingredients for the chefs in Bragg Creek but still have a convenient plan in place to offset the cost.

"The Bragg Creek participants will have access to grocery gift cards that we will drop off at the Bragg Creek Community Centre," says Poettcker. "I will be providing the Bragg Creek Junior Chef kids with a recipe list every week."

Poettcker says that the junior chefs don't need previous cooking experience to take part in the program, and they can look forward to learning a number of useful kitchen skills as well as simple recipes.

"They'll learn new kitchen literacy skills," says Poettcker. "Some skills we work on are knife skills, general kitchen safety and also just mostly engaging with peers their age in a fun cooking setting."

The Junior Chef program starts on February 11, 2021, and it will run every Thursday until March 18 from 4 pm-5 pm.

Registration is now open, Poettcker recommends signing up quickly while spots are still available.
