The warmer temperatures have many Albertans itching to take that long awaited road trip and perhaps even venture across the border, unfortunately that won’t be possible until at least the end of April.

The border closure between Canada and the United States has been extended for another month.

In a tweet earlier today (March 18, 2021) Canada’s Public Safety Minister, Bill Blair stated that “Non-essential travel restrictions with the United States have been extended until April 21st, 2021,”

That date brings us nearly three weeks after Easter, which is typically a busy time for travel abroad.

For the second year Albertans won’t be border crossing for the Easter break.

On March 21, 2020 both the Canadian and U.S governments closed the border for any non-essential travel. This extension will make that closure 13 months.

Canada’s Public Safety Minister went on to say “We will continue to base our decisions on the best public health advice available to keep Canadians safe from COVID-19.”
