The introduction of the carbon tax has brought up gasoline prices to 114.9 in Cochrane.

With the added 4.7 c/L from the carbon tax it's now costing retailers about 105 c/L to buy their gasoline.

Dan McTeague, Senior Petroleum Analyst with GasBuddy, believes 114.9 may seem on the high side and haven't been adjusted. He's reflecting the rise in gas prices of a couple of weeks ago due to two Chicago area refineries having shutdowns and were in repair but that is no longer the case.

"Those numbers are a little high given that what brought us up to at least 109.9 c/L was some disturbances south of the border. Those distrubances are over so we could see prices move down into the 105/107 range hopefully in the next 7 to 10 days."

McTeague adds the prices may go down but the days gas under a dollar a litre are behind us.

If you are looking for a bit of a break at the pump you may want to check out the box stores like No Frills, Superstore or Costco where they offer gasoline at prices with very little margins.
