The Cochrane and Area Events Society (CAES) has revealed how Cochranites can celebrate Canada Day this year. A variety of outdoor activities will be held throughout the day, followed by a virtual concert and all wrapped up with a fireworks show.

Kailey Mitchell with CAES says they had great success last year, and they are hoping to build on it for 2021.

“We've gone ahead with sort of the same plan in terms of virtual and live events and entertainment going on through the day starting at noon, we're going to have food trucks and community parades, similar to what we did last year, as well as we've got scavenger hunt, a bike rally a trivia walk, and a market happening as a social spot.”

“The plan is not promoting too much crowding of people but encouraging people to get out with their families and enjoy the day and take part in the different activities that we've got going on”

Virtual activities will kick off in the afternoon as well, leading to a concert by country music superstar, George Canyon.

“I'm really excited about the George Canyon performance! We wanted to do something different than just having all pre-recorded music and entertainment like we did last year. We wanted to change it up and bring Cochrane together again, without all technically being together so we thought this was a great way to bring a bigger name as a headliner.”

The day will wrap up with Fireworks at 11 p.m.

“We are constantly working closely with the town and up until last week, we didn't really know what the summer was gonna look like and I mean, no one really even really knows. We got such positive feedback from last year's events that people actually really enjoy being in their own community, watching the parade go by, and being able to go to the food truck. We had a lot of engagement and a lot of participation in those things.”

“We knew we wouldn't be able to have a concert at Mitford park this year, there's just no chance. We are really hopeful that 2022 will allow us to do that again.”
