This Sunday evening (June 16), Women Empowering Women in partnership with the Cochrane Public Library will be celebrating the beginning of summer with a mystical and inspiring event.

Andrea Johnston, Community Outreach and Program Librarian for the Cochrane Public Library, shares the interactive evening celebration will feature tarot card readings, yoga, aura photos, and sun-themed maker space projects in celebration of Summer Solstice occurring on Friday, June 21st.  "A tarot card reader coming in from the Divine Mine and she will be telling us about the summer solstice and then she is going to move right into doing readings for everyone. She will be doing a four card solstice spread and people can just sign up to have their own reading done. We also have a yoga instructor from Community Yoga Cochrane coming in and she will be doing a sun-themed yoga practice with us at 7 o'clock. We will also be setting up our maker space area to make some little sun lanterns. We just want women to come on out, get creative, and get inspired as they learn about the summer solstice."

Jeri Maitland, Co-Organizer of Women Empowering Women and Director of the Cochrane Public Library, shares they wanted to create an event that is a little outside of the box. While traditionally, most Women Empowering Women meetings feature speakers, Maitland shares they thought this would be a great opportunity to explore the mystical side of the solstice. "Summer solstice is something that some people spend some time honouring but not everyone knows a lot about. So we had some inquiries as to why the library would host this, but we are always about the information, as well as reaching out and expanding across the borders on what we know and don't know. Plus, because we are specifically a group of women we want to come together and share this. If some people don't feel comfortable with all of the elements of the evening, they don't have to participate in those."

Meant to be a relaxing and enjoyable evening, it will also include summer solstice food and beverages, says Maitland. "We have had such interesting and valuable shared time over the past four years that is just another way to bring women together, ask questions, and be curious."

Women Empowering Women will still remain a grassroots group, with a mandate of connecting women in the Cochrane community without pressure, sales, or expectations. With so many women already connecting Women Empowering Women with the Cochrane Public Library, having a more formal partnership makes sense. "We want to carry on offering those amazing experiences, moments, and sharing that has happened within the group. We never know whois going to come, whether it is the same people or different people, we have had such great moments and will continue to bring those."

While Community Yoga Cochrane will have some yoga mats to lend out, attendees are asked to bring one along, if they have one, and dress comfortably.

The cost to attend this Sunday evening's event from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. is $10 cash only and includes drinks, appetizers, and all project material costs. If you would like to learn more about the Women Empowering Women group, go HERE
