With added health restrictions going into place to "Stop the Spike" of rising active cases, the numbers prove once again that actions are needed. 

Alberta added another 2,271 new cases on Wednesday, May 5 for a total of 24,156 in the province. 

In the past 24 hours, 903 cases of variants of concern have been identified accounting for 59% of all active cases.

There are now 666 people in the hospital, a drop of five. There are 146 in ICU, a decrease of four.

Sadly, three more deaths, all under the age of 50, have been reported for a total of 2,102.

Cochrane has added five cases for a total of 203 and Rocky View County added 12 cases for a total of 252.
